The Timișoara 2023 Programme

The Center for Projects Timișoara was the implementing organization of the Municipality of Timișoara for the National Cultural Programme "Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023."
The year 2023 marked a historic moment for Timișoara, which proudly was the European Capital of Culture, transforming the city, the community, and the cultural scene. With a record number of artists present in Timișoara, a diverse cultural programme, impressive public participation and numerous spaces revitalised and reopened for the community, 2023 contributed significantly to the consolidation of a strong, inclusive community connected to national and European values. 

The Timișoara 2023 Curatorial Team

The team responsible for the artistic coherence and strategic coordination of the "Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture" Cultural Program.

Coordination Council

Responsible for developing and implementing the strategies and priorities of the Projects Center, and contributes to the implementation of the Municipality of Timișoara’s local public strategies and policies.

Responsibilities

The members of the team have complementary areas of expertise and their tasks converge. The 7 curators and experts who make up this team are responsible for realistically and creatively adapting the “Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture” cultural programme to the pandemic context and to the changes that have marked the local cultural scene.

Communicating actively and openly with the community, with the cultural operators included in the “Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture”cultural programme, and with new cultural operators, interested organisations, institutions and public authorities.

Consolidating and complementing the “Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture” cultural programme by launching new open calls.

Working together with the cultural operators included in the cultural programme, supporting them to increase their capacity to generate quality cultural productions, to communicate their work, to attract and activate the community.

Coordinating the development and implementation of the “Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture” cultural programme for the period 2022–2024.

Selection process

In the autumn of 2021, the Timișoara Center for Projects launched an open call for the formation of a team of curators and experts responsible, on behalf of the Municipality, for the artistic coherence and strategic coordination of the “Timisoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture” cultural programme.

70 candidates applied, of which 19 were shortlisted on the basis of a scoring grid and were subsequently interviewed individually. The 7 finalists were selected based on the arithmetic average between the score obtained for their online application and their interview score.

The entire evaluation of the candidates, the scoring and the interviews were done by a selection committee of independent experts.
